Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has proposed key infrastructure projects ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.

According to reports, the projects for Mumbai are an arm of Kalanagar flyover connecting Bandra-Worli Sea Link with Bandra-Kurla Complex, presided over a function in which a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the BMC and an Israel-based firm for the city’s first desalination project at Manori in Malad, and chaired a function of handing over of a 2,170-bed Covid hospital in Mulund by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to the BMC.

The Shiv Sena has been ruling the BMC in Mumbai for more than twenty years now. The civic body happens to be the richest in India with an annual budget of over INR 39,000 crores. In the 2017 civic polls, the BJP emerged as the second-largest party with 82 seats, after the Sena winning 84 seats in the 227-member body.

On the other hand, CM Thackeray earlier on Monday, June 28 chaired a meeting to review the preparedness measures put in place for the third wave of the coronavirus. During the meeting, CM Thackeray asked the State Health Department to bolster the rural healthcare infrastructure as they may be impacted the worst if a third wave hits the state.

The CM also asked districts to convert the existing temporary jumbo centres into permanent buildings while building new rural health centres and identify funds under the Corporate-Social Responsibility (CSR) program to improve local health infrastructure.
