According to the latest reports, the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) on Saturday, February 19, commenced the statuary inspection of Phase 1 of Mumbai Metro corridors 2A and 7 between Dahanukarwadi and Aarey.

Previously, narratives were doing the rounds that Metro 2A which is from Dahisar to DN Nagar and Metro 7 which is from Dahisar East to Andheri East routes are likely to become operational for passengers by March.

Based on accounts, the CMRS team arrived in Mumbai on Friday, February 18 to commence the inspection. A regular procedure prior to the beginning of any metro line, its clearance is required to start the commercial operation of the service.

It has been reported that the inspection will be underway for a week and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) commissioner SVR Srinivas affirmed the same.

Earlier last month, the MMRDA had attained a provisional certificate from the Research, Design and Standard Organisation (RDSO) for the said stretch. The said certificate is also a prerequisite for the beginning of commercial operations.

The MMRDA is building a 35-km stretch of the elevated corridors, Metro Line 2A and Line 7. The commercial functioning of both lines is being made in two phases and its previous deadlines have been missed.

Presently, the MMRDA is partially testing the two mentioned lines. As phase one of the scheme, the two lines will cover 18 stations.
