Gadkari: Construction of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway Ongoing in ‘Record Speed’

Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari shared some updates on the construction of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway via Twitter. Although he also shared pictures on the site, the tweet has since been deleted. 

Gadkari said that they are looking to expedite the completion of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The completion deadline for this greenfield highway is January 2023.

Gadkari also responded to a question in Rajya Sabha saying that 350 km of the highway has already finished construction while works on the remaining 825 km are underway. 

“Out of the total length of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, 350 km has already been constructed and works for construction of 825 km is in progress,” the Union Minister said.

“In ongoing packages, there are certain slippages on account of the ongoing COVID pandemic. All efforts are being made to complete the project expeditiously,” he added.

In response to a separate question, Gadkari said that the Centre has taken up the implementation of 7 expressways with a length of 2,507 km. “Out of 2,507 kms, 440 km has been completed,” he said.

Nitin Gadkari also shared details on the new guidelines for mandatory use of waste plastic during periodic renewal coats on National Highway pavements.
