On Sunday, September 5, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) took to Twitter and announced that it completed the 1-km tunnel boring for the coastal road project.

The Mumbai Coastal Road Project has 4 plus 4 lanes from South Coastal Road Princess Street flyover to the southern end of Bandra Worli Bridge. It is divided into three parts.

As a part of the 10.58-km coastal road project from Princess Street Flyover at Marine Lines to the Worli end of Bandra-Worli Sea Link, the civic body is constructing 2.07-km twin tunnels between Priyadarshini Park to Girgaon Chowpatty passing under Malabar Hill and the Arabian Sea near the coast.

Later, state Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray has also tweeted about Mavla completing 1-km tunnel work.

The Mavla plant, which is the largest tunnel digger in India, has completed 1 km out of the 2 km phase.

These are the 3 parts of Coastal Road:

Part I: 4 km road from Princess Street flyover to Priyadarshini Garden through two separate tunnels, mainly under Malabar Hill.

Part II: There will be a 3.87 km main road on reclamation and bridge from Priyadarshini Garden to Baroda Palace near Haji Ali Dargah and a 4 arm interchange at Amarsans Garden and an 8 arm interchange road near Haji Ali Dargah.

Phase III: From Baroda Palace to the southern end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Bridge, there will be a 2.71 km main road from Reclamation and two bridges and a 6-arm interchange road in front of Thadani Junction at Worli.
