On Monday, July 11, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari mentioned that the government is considering building an electric highway between Delhi and Mumbai, reports stated. 

His comments came at an event conducted by the Hydraulic Trailer Owners Association. The road transport and highways minister was quoted in accounts elaborating on how the government is planning to make an electric highway from Delhi to Mumbai. Without furnishing further details he added that akin to a trolley bus, one can also run trolley trucks, accounts mentioned.

According to narratives, a trolley bus is an electric bus that draws power from an overhead wire. Likewise, an electric highway is usually a road that provides power to vehicles plying on it that entail by means of power lines.

Further, he added that the government will be building tunnels worth INR 2.5 lakh crore. Then he articulated that his ministry has decided to connect all districts by four-lane roads, reports cited. 

Later he urged heavy vehicle owners to make use of alternative fuels like ethanol, methanol and green hydrogen. He believes these are not only cost-effective but also act as import substitutes. Broaching the heavy vehicle owners topic ahead he agreed that they are facing issues owing to corruption in state Regional Transport Offices (RTOs). To address this he declared that all services provided by RTOs be digitized accounts highlighted.

Moreover, Gadkari hopes to curtail road accidents and deaths. He believes that there is a need to be cautious regarding road safety for which trained drivers are needed. He opined that as a fast-growing economy, India needs all kinds of transportation, with its logistics cost also higher in contrast to China, European Union and the USA.
