The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced that it will soon start works on the JVPD flyover. When completed, this will significantly reduce travel times between Versova and Andheri.

The BMC is reportedly preparing to appoint consultants to aid with the design while the estimated cost of the project is said to be ₹150 crores. It’s worth mentioning that the project has been in the works for a while now, but it has been delayed due to not receiving enough clarity on the design.

BMC officials said that since the Bandra-Versova Sea Link is already in the works, this new flyover will prove to be beneficial for all. Authorities believe that travelling to Andheri from Versova via the Western Express Highway (WEH) will be cut by more than half as a result of this new flyover, bringing some good news to daily commuters. “While currently, it takes 45 minutes to reach the WEH from Versova, the flyover is expected to bring the time down to 20 minutes,” an official said.

As per sources cited by mid-day, the flyover will pass over the AAI (Airports Authority of India) land in Juhu which is currently listed as a private road. Commenting on this, a civic official said, “The tenders are currently being drafted and are expected to be issued by next month. The AAI has also agreed to part with the 500 square-metre land worth Rs 11.6 crore.”

Another official said that the flyover will cross Metro Line 2A at one junction and then “move parallel to it”. They added that the flyover will be on the first level whereas the Metro line will be on the second.

As soon as the JVPD flyover is completed, commuters will no longer have to go through the Juhu Circle signal. Further, commuters will find an exit at the Bandra-Versova Sea Link near Nana Nani Park in Versova.
