As the construction work of the flyover near Lower Parel station will be completed by 2022, massive traffic jams have ensued in the area due to the contriving work.

After the accident of Prabhadevi (Elphinstone Road) and Gokhale flyover on Western Railways, the Railways, Mumbai's Municipal Corporation and the IIT had conducted a structural audit of pedestrian bridges and flyovers in the railway boundary which led to the observation that the Lower Parel flyover was dangerous. As a result, it was closed to traffic in July 2018. Moreover, the work of this bridge was decided to be completed by Western Railways and the civic body.

If not for the coronavirus-induced lockdown, dismantling one FOB would require for the train services to be blocked at least twice for four to five hours each. Back in 2018, after the collapse of the pedestrian pathway of Gokhale Bridge, Piyush Goyal had ordered an inspection on all the bridges on the suburban section of Mumbai. This audit was further conducted by IIT-Bombay along with officials from CR, WR and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

On the other hand, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has finally finalised a contractor to start work on the Sewri-Worli elevated corridor (SWEC). The metropolitan authority has appointed J Kumar Infraprojects Ltd for the ₹1,276-crore project, with a letter of authority issued to the company last month. This project happens to be a 4.5-km elevated corridor connecting the under-construction MTHL at Sewri on the east and the upcoming coastal road at Worli on the west.
