In a significant development, the deadline for the completion of Delisle bridge in Lower Parel has been extended yet again.

Officials stated that now expect the bridge to open only by October this year.

This was the first joint bridge project between Western Railways (WR) and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

As per reports, only 60% work is complete despite shutting it down now almost five years later. Hence, as per the new deadline, the bridge may open only after the monsoon.

For those unversed, the bridge was shut in August 2018 for traffic after IIT-Bombay after it was declared unsafe by the experts.

This development came after the collapse of the pedestrian walkway of the Gokhale bridge near Andheri station of the Western Railway, a safety audit of all railway bridges was conducted.

Giving more details about the o­ngoing work of Delisle ROB, officials mentioned that the design of the bridge is complex as it is not a straight road. The bridge is 89.89 mtr long, consisting of 3 lanes of 11 mtr and 1.8 mtr footpath. The ROB has a skew of 65 degree with railway tracks and located at the north end of Lower Parel station.
