On Thursday, April 28, Maharashtra Housing Minister, Jitendra Awhad stated that the Maharashtra government is considering redeveloping the 21 acres, of Machhimar Nagar in Cuffee Parade. He reportedly made this statement at the Real Estate Forum 2022 that was organized by NAREDCO’s Maharashtra chapter, reports stated.

Based on accounts, Awhad elaborated on how from these, 15 acres are open spaces. He says that the government looks to involve the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) which will look after the process.

Further, Awhad said that the SRA will then hand it over to those who wish to develop it further. The minister brought to light some interesting facts that entail how the premium collected by MHADA in the last decade from 2011 to 2021 was nearly INR 1,902 crore.

He, however, claims that in 2021-2022, the premium amount collected has been INR 1,873 crore. Then, the minister lauded the efforts undertaken by the developers in beautifying Mumbai.

Awhad opined that Maharashtra’s development is linked to the housing industry. He reportedly uttered that since there are no open land spaces available in Mumbai, the development of the city is only possible through redevelopment.

This, he uttered, would largely help society. He was quoted in narratives elucidating that with an increasing population in the city, there can’t be development if the developers don’t participate. He claimed that the Maharashtra government has ensured transparency in all housing transactions.

Similarly, Mumbai suburban guardian minister, Aaditya Thackeray who also attended the event voiced that the government was working on reducing the time to attain Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance to 1-2 months.

In addition to this, he says the government is curating a digital interface for approval of future projects. Thackeray reportedly uttered that Mumbai has the best architecture and engineering minds.

Therefore, he urged them to come together to create in-house facilities which will help construct “not just 15 minutes cities, but 5-minutes cities”.
