Maharashtra Govt to Spend Additional ₹141.64 Crores Towards Fighting COVID-19

The Maharashtra State Government has decided to release an additional ₹141.64 crores of funding to combat the coronavirus pandemic across the state. 

An order was issued by the Relief and Rehabilitation Section Officer, Uday Gawas, noting that ₹1.57 crores will be earmarked for fighting the virus in Mumbai while ₹2.93 crores will go towards JJ Hospital, ₹7.04 crores for Poddar Ayurved Hospital, and ₹11.04 crores for St George Hospital.

Further, an additional ₹18.22 crores has been approved for Thane district, ₹22.48 crores for Palghar, ₹10 crores for Ratnagiri, ₹55.73 crores for Pune division, ₹24.5 crores for Nashik, and ₹10.25 crores for Aurangabad. 

As per the dean at JJ Hospital, Dr Ranjeet Mankeshwar, most of the allocated funds will be used to purchase consumables.

The Medical Superintendent at St George, Dr Akash Khobragade said that they are prioritizing the acquisition of medication such as remdesivir and others while also upgrading the hospital infrastructure. 

“We will ensure there is no shortage of medicines or oxygen. We are equipped with adequate oxygen,” Dr Khobragade added.
