According to the latest reports, this week onwards, the railways will be completing the final part of the addition of the two new rail lines on the Thane Diva section. It will reportedly end on February 4-6 when a 72-hour block is anticipated. On the other hand, work on the 5th and 6th rail lines on the Western Railways has commenced, cited narratives. 

Many accounts, accord this project as key to travel in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and it has claimed to be delayed for a decade. Its purpose is to differentiate between the suburban and long-distance trains on the Western Railways for which the work has been ongoing at Mahim

Based on a narrative by the Free Press Journal, for the said work, from Tuesday, February 1, night, the Western Railways authorities will be closing the staircase of the Mahim foot over bridge (FOB). Apart from this, a week ago, the authorities had already demolished old platforms on the Harbour line. 

Additionally, plans on going for yard remodelling as well as curating stable lines. It has been claimed in reports that the 5th and 6th lines between Mumbai Central and Borivali have been stuck. Previously, the authorities had linked the 5th line from Mahim to Santacruz for INR 10 crore. 

But, locals had opposed this since it was based through a burial ground and thus it was re-planned via the Bandra Terminus. While initially, the project cost INR 430 crore when it was conceptualized in 2008 owing to the delay the expenditure surged to INR 920 crore. Authorities, in accordance with accounts, have attributed the delay to encroachments.
