Residents ask MMRC to mind their work timings

SHARES

Andheri - Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation has begun its work of Metro 3 at Marol’s Pali ground which goes on until midnight. The official work time is from 6 am to 10 pm but MMRC officials and contractors are seen working beyond the official work hours. This is causing inconvenience to the residents who have taken their grievances to the court.

Social activist Nicholas Almeida has filed a petition at Andheri court against MMRC managing director Ashwini Bhide and other authorities concerned. “Initially, we tried to speak to MMRC officials and other authorities concerned, but no one paid heed. So, finally we decided to file a petition,” said Gaudfrey Dementa, resident. He added that they are not against the project but they should do something about the noise. “They should use noise barrier so that we don’t get disturbed in the night. Also, they should not work between 10 pm to 6 am, they should stick to their official work timings. In the night, the noise level goes above 75 decibels in the night and it causes inconvenience to the people. If this does not stop, then we will protest,” said advocate Mangesh Pawar.

When Mumbai Live spoke to MMRC’s executive director R Ramanna, at first he denied the allegations but then he assured that he will look into the matter. It seems, MMRC wants to stick to their deadline of completing work by 2020 at the cost of people’s inconvenience.
