The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is responsible for undertaking the construction of residential buildings under various housing schemes for different sections of the society. In a similar project, the authority has constructed 100 houses for its Konkan Board and will soon be issuing lottery for the same.
However, the question is that will the lottery be issued before the implementation of the Election Commission's Code of Conduct in Maharashtra. With the Maharashtra State Assembly Elections 2019 around the corner, the government cannot announce any new schemes, once the Code of Conduct is in effect.
The Code of Conduct ensures that ruling parties, at the Centre and in the States, do not misuse their position of advantage to gain an unfair edge prior to the elections.
However, this will affect the applicants who have applied for MHADA's Konkan Board flats as the announcement might face a delay. Therefore, MHADA is planning to make the announcement prior to the implementation of CoC. Earlier, the applicants for MHADA's Mumbai, Nashik, and Pune Board had to face delays due to the CoC being in effect during Lok Sabha 2019 elections.
Out of the 100 houses, 40 have been built at Palghar, 20 flats have been built at Thane, and 40 houses will be constructed at Ghansoli, Navi Mumbai. On the other hand, the Konkan Board has been working to construct houses at Kalyan's Khoni, Umbarli, Shirdhon, Kole, etc. as a part of its housing plan.
