Environmentalists register 30,000 suggestions against tree cutting with BMC's Tree Authority denying the same

Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) is planning to cut down 2,702 trees for Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro-3 car shed but Save Aarey, Save Tree, Vanashakti, environmentalists and local Adivasis are not happy with the decision. The result of which, along with staging protests, they have recorded their suggestions and objections to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Tree Authority.

As per the environmentalists, BMC's Tree Authority has received more than 30,000 suggestions and objections regarding the same but the Tree Authority’s Garden superintendent Jitendra Pardeshi denied the same while speaking to Mumbai Live.

So far, the Tree Authority has received 3,000 suggestions and objections and will increase by thousand more. But it is definitely not 30,000. We will get to know the real numbers in a public hearing that will take place on October 10,” Jitendra Pardeshi, Garden Superintendent, Tree Authority.

When MMRC sought permission from Tree Authority to cut down 2702 trees for Metro-3 car shed, the Tree Authority released a proposal asking people to register their suggestions and objections.

Save Tree member Zoru Bathena told Mumbai Live that one of the organisations have registered 26,000 suggestions and objections via mail. Thane’s MUSE organisation’s president Nishant Bangera informed that his organisation has registered 1600 suggestions and objections.
