In a significant development for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train, on Monday, March 20, the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Japan government, which has nominated a Special Purpose Company – Japan High-Speed Rail Electric Engineering Co. Ltd. (JE).

The move has been taken to execute core Japanese Shinkansen technologies works related to safety and punctuality of trains on bullet train network.

This is the first contract being awarded on the Maharashtra side of the rail corridor.

JE will carry out the works related to OCC (Operation Control Center) design contract, production and construction contracts, and PMC Contract for E1 Package on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, ensuring the same level of safety and quality as of Shinkansen, Japan.

Meanwhile, the NHSRCL has also signed an agreement for work related to the design and construction of the underground Mumbai High-Speed Rail Station at Bandra Kurla Complex with M/s MEIL-HCC Joint Venture (comprising M/s Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Limited and M/s Hindustan Construction Company Limited).

As of October 2022, the Centre had completed acquisition of 98.87 per cent of the land in Gujarat and 95.45 per cent in Maharashtra. While Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai, the terminal station of the corridor, is making progress, another land parcel in the state remains stuck.
