The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has razed nine constructions for road widening that leads to Madh Marve in Malad West. Due to this action, about 113 metres long section of Madh Marve road has been cleared and the traffic congestion caused by tourist vehicles going to Madh Marve will be reduced to some extent.

Malvani Church and surrounding constructions were causing traffic jams on Marve Road in Malad West. The road leading to Madh Marve is always crowded with tourists. This road will be widened to solve the problem of traffic congestion. But a bungalow and nine shops at Malwani Church were coming up against the widening of the road.

There is a bungalow of the father of the church at this place. A notice was sent to this bungalow and nine shops by the North Division of the Municipal Corporation. Also, the municipal administration had proposed to give compensation to these shopkeepers and father of the church in exchange for demolishing these constructions. The shopkeepers accepted the proposal of the BMC and therefore the civic body removed these constructions on Tuesday. But in the case of the bungalow, the concerned have approached the court. Therefore, no action was taken against the bungalow, informed the Municipal Corporation officials.

Church representatives claim that this bungalow is an ancient building. However, when the municipal administration inquired about this from the Department of Antiquities, the municipal officials said that the Nirwala Department said that this building is not an ancient heritage site. However, this case is pending in court and no action has been taken against this bungalow. Two JCBs, electricians, dumpers, police, engineers, and 15 workers were present for this operation.
