The Mumbai Coastal Road project will soon feature 70 hectares of green space and promenade in its vicinity. The design for this green space has been created by AECOM, and the construction will begin in November. This new space will include nine parks located between Worli and Priyadarshini Park.

The space will cover 70 hectares and be divided into 3 zones: green shore, nature cove, and park line. As per reports, 30% of the open area will have pathways, cycle lanes, and a promenade of 7.5 kilometres. The remaining 70% will be green spaces.

The parks will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. There will be nine main access points to the area, located at Tata Garden, Setalvad Lane, Mahalaxmi, Haji Ali Juice Centre, Lotus Jetty, Atria Mall, Madraswadi in Worli, among others.

The parks will offer activities for all ages, including large football fields, tennis and badminton courts, skating rinks, yoga spaces, and cycling paths. Special facilities will be available for children and senior citizens to ensure that everyone can enjoy the parks.

The promenade will be open 24/7. It will include 20 underpasses, which will be spaced 400 meters apart, for easy movement between different sections. At the Worli end of the promenade, steps will allow visitors to get closer to the water.

One part of the coastal road arch bridge, connecting to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, will likely open on September 12. Initially, only one side of the bridge will be open, allowing traffic in single direction from Marine Drive towards Bandra. Vehicles heading south will continue to use the Worli entrance.

This project was first proposed in December 2011 when a committee was formed under former municipal commissioner Subodh Kumar. The goal was to make a connecting road along the western coast of the city. They also highlighted the potential to create open spaces.
