Residents of five dilapidated buildings in Mumbai to be relocated

In a meeting held at Mantralay, Maharashtra's Relief and Rehabilitation Minister, Vijay Vadettiwar, has directed the officials to focus on the rehabilitation plans of the residents from old buildings in Mumbai. An audit report will also be prepared soon.

In a recently held meeting, Maharashtra's Relief and Rehabilitation Minister, Vijay Vadettiwar, has directed the officials that both the Colaba Chambers and Mehboob building in Sir Karimbhai Ibrahim Trust are in dilapidated condition. Keeping this in mind, he stated that the occupants of these buildings should be rehabilitated immediately and a report should be submitted by appointing a consultant for the reconstruction of these building.

A meeting was held at Mantralay and focused on the rehabilitation plans of the residents in Mumbai. Furthermore, addressing the issue, Vijay Vadettiwar said that it was essential to take immediate action so that the lives of the residents are not at risk. The space to move should be provided as per rules while rehabilitating the residents in these respective buildings, and the same should be carried out immediately for their safety

A total of five structures - Colaba Chambers, Karimbhai Manor, Mohammadbhoy Mansion, Mehmood Building, Mahim Mansion - are in dilapidated conditions, and officials have been directed to take immediate measures. Government is looking at providing them with a society and a consultant will soon be appointed. Additional actions will also be taken immediately, once the report is submitted regarding relevant work

Besides this, the minister has asked the District Collector to conduct a structural audit to rehabilitate the members from 34 buildings on government land at Chembur. Moreover, builders who have started rehabilitation work without permission from the government have been asked to stop the work immediately, and directives have been issued to submit a report on the work within a month.

Members at the meeting also discussed the implementation of the slum rehabilitation scheme on Mauje Vadwali Plot No. 27A, B, as well as 1729 government property. Officials state that the structural audit of remaining buildings should be conducted and submitted immediately, post-which reports should also be submitted regarding unauthorized slums in the area.
