Ghatkopar Railway Station redevelopment project work is almost 50% complete. This ambitious initiative spearheaded by the Mumbai Rail Development Corporation (MRVC) aims to modernise the station and make it more convenient for over 4 lakh commuters every day.

With an estimated cost of INR 130 crore, the project is expected to significantly improve passenger comfort and infrastructure. The second part of the two escalators in the first phase of the project was commissioned on Friday, October 18, at the entrance of the booking office at Ghatkopar East.

According to MRVC, the redevelopment is divided into two phases. The first phase, which is nearing completion, includes major upgrades such as improved footbridges, additional ticket counters and replacement of the roof over the entire station and installation of 7 new escalators (including up and down). A few final finishing touches remain, which are expected to be completed in the coming weeks.

The second phase, already underway, includes construction of a new footbridge, installation of 7 escalators (including up and down), and installation of four lifts. This phase is expected to be completed in 30 months i.e. by March/April 2027.

Sunil Udasi, Chief Public Relations Officer, MRVC, said, "The first phase is almost complete, and the second phase is in full swing. We expect the complete redevelopment to be completed by March/April 2027."

The redevelopment aims to decongest the Ghatkopar station, which serves as an interchange for both the Central Railway and the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro Line. This metro line connects major residential and commercial hubs like Asalfa, Kamani, Narayan Nagar.
