According to a press release issued the Mumbai International Airport runway will be closed on May 10, 2022, for pre-monsoon maintenance work intending to mitigate the possible inclement weather.
A CSMIA Spokesperson, added, "As part of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport’s (CSMIA) monsoon contingency plan, both runways - RWY 14/32 & 09/27 will remain non-operational on May 10, 2022, for pre-monsoon maintenance & repair work."
The spokesperson voiced, "The closure will be from 1100hrs to 1700hrs and a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) has been issued in this regard. All operations will resume as usual from May 10, 2022 post 1700hrs."
In light of this, the Mumbai airport has urged passengers to check with their concerned airlines about their flight schedules for May 10.
The statement further elaborated, " The runway closure is a yearly practice and contingency plan on the same will help maintain operational continuity and ensure passengers safety." The spokesperson concluded by saying, "CSMIA regrets any inconvenience caused to its esteemed passengers."
In other developments, within one month of the reopening of international flights, from March 27 to April 27, 2022, Mumbai's CSMIA saw around 6.3 lakh passenger movements. During that duration, the airport witnessed nearly 120 daily movements to a total of 41 international destinations.
