Like every year, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has set up an emergency control room for the monsoon. The Emergency Control Room will be operational from June 1 and will remain operational till September 30. The problems arising during the rainy season at the project site of MMRDA, as well as in the vicinity of the project, will be resolved through this room.


Various projects are being implemented to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure in Mumbai and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Metro, Mumbai Porbandar Project, Santacruz – Chembur Expressway Extension Project, Airoli – Katai Naka Expressway as well as subway, Shivdi – Worli Elevated Line, Chheda Nagar Junction Improvement Project on Eastern Expressway, Extended MUIP in Mumbai Metropolitan Region – Various roads, bridges under OARDS, it includes various types of works like flyovers. During the monsoons, water accumulates, trees are uprooted, traffic jams, accidents etc. occur in these workplaces and surrounding areas. Emergency Control Room is established by MMRDA every year to prevent accidents or to get immediate help in case of accidents.

This chamber is functional throughout the monsoon season. Under this control room, complaints are followed up 24 hours a day and coordinated with disaster control rooms of Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Public Works Department, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation, Railways etc. Also, complaints of citizens are redressed by exchanging information. The officers and staff of this control room will be working in three shifts. The MMRDA has instructed all the concerned contractors to strictly follow the safety rules while setting up the emergency control room itself.


The contractors have been instructed to install water pumping pumps with additional capacity in places where there is no sewage drainage system and where there is a possibility of rain water accumulation.
