Mumbai-Nashik highway project to be completed in 2.5 years, says Nitin Gadkari

It takes around 3 hours and 35 mins. to cover the Mumbai-Nashik stretch; however, after the project completion, the journey between Mumbai and Nashik will be of 2 hours.

On Monday, October 4, Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, announced that for the Mumbai-Nashik highway, Rs 5,000 crores will be spent. He has laid the foundation stone for twelve national highway stretches worth Rs 1,678 crores.

While addressing the media, he said that the Mumbai-Nashik highway project would be completed in 2.5 years and Rs. 5,000 crores will be spent. Reportedly, it takes around 3 hours and 35 mins. to cover the Mumbai-Nashik stretch; however, after the project completion, the journey between Mumbai and Nashik will be of just 2 hours.

Gadkari also addressed the situation of noise pollution, which is created by the horns in vehicles. He said that the in-built horns create a lot of harsh sounds, and it irritates the mind. To resolve this issue, the government is planning to replace them "with more friendly horns." 

He expressed concern over the increase in accidents taking place on the highway. He said that their primary focus is to minimize the deaths taking place due to road accidents.

Earlier in September 2021, Satej Patil, Minister of State for Transport had directed four districts to prepare an action plan to control accidents on highways.
