The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to repair 808 Mumbai roads measuring around 274 km. It is expected that the civic body will finalise bids worth ₹2,200 crores by the end of this month and make way for the work to begin.

Due to the repair work, Mumbaikars can expect traffic diversions and blockages. The repair work across the city, western and eastern suburbs include 808 roads, both major and minor, said BMC officials.

Some of the roads they will repair include Cumbala Hill Lane, Kamathipura 10th Lane, Kamraj Nagar Road in South Mumbai. While in Eastern suburbs it will be Ramabai Road and Military Camp junction. Few roads in Western suburbs include Kalina Navpada Road, Bandra East, Shastri Nagar Road, Santacruz East Aarey Colony Road.

The civic administration will be converting the roads from paver block/ asphalt to cement and concrete for its repair, maintenance and strengthening work.

They will be appointing a contractor for the same who will be responsible for clearance from the Mumbai Traffic Police. The contractor will also have to manage traffic, including installing safety barricades during the construction phase.

The construction period will range from a year to two years, depending on the challenges BMC will face at the construction site.

The BMC has received bids that are 15-20% below the estimates even after re-tendering the number of roads. The last date to submit re-floated tenders was earlier this month. They are now scrutinising the bids it received.

The civic administration will submit the proposals to the standing committee for approval by month-end. Once the proposal is approved, the work is likely to start by next month.
