The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) hopes to give mobile library vans for free ahead of the civic elections scheduled early next year, reported the Times of India. 

The civic body's E Ward that entails Byculla, Mazgaon, as well as, Mumbai Central has initiated a proposal to purchase and distribute mobile library vans amounting to nearly INR 2 crores. One mobile library will cost the civic authority nearly INR 45-50 lakh. 

The said ward has asked the planning department to curate guidelines for the distribution of mobile libraries after Shiv Sena corporator, Yashwant Jadhav, who also spearheads the civic standing committee made the demand. According to him the said initiative will function for the poor along with the needy students by social organizations, highlighted the report. 

The account, however, also claimed that corporators from the opposition have hit out at the civic body for its latest initiative. 

Ahead of the approaching elections, the BMC is also looking to install 20 e-kiosks for citizens in order to enable them to verify their details on the voters’ list. Through this. they hope to ensure that the issues of missing names on the voting day doesn’t transpire, whilst also encouraging citizens to register themselves to vote.
