Amid the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Elections slated to be held early next year, the civic authority will put up 20 electronic kiosks where citizens will have the opportunity to check their names, address amongst others, highlighted reports. The drive is believed to be initiated to ensure issues of missing names on the voting day doesn’t occur, along with propelling people to register themselves to vote.

The BMC’s standing committee on Tuesday, November 9, agreed to a proposal for putting up 20 kiosks. Based on the proposal, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on November 1 put out the voters' list utilized in the 2019 assembly elections. Post which, the civic authority requested citizens to verify their names in the list that will be accessible at the kiosks. The proposal stated that if their names aren’t found, they can go to the ECI for updating, stated accounts.

The process of the election will entail the rectification on voters’ list that includes removal of those names that have deceased or relocated and duplication. Post the removal of names, the body will ask for recommendations and objections by December 20.

Till November 30, those turning 18 on or before January 1, 2022, can register themselves virtually. It is anticipated that the final voters' list will be proclaimed on January 5, 2022.
