Mumbai - When it comes to remarkable ideas, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) does not lag behind. In one of the recent ideas, the MMRDA has decided to award monetary gains to the contractor who will finish the assigned work before the deadline. The MMRDA has completed many big projects in the city and the metropolitan region. Metro-1 was one of such projects which had caused a great inconvenience to the Mumbaikars. Now with Metro-2 and Metro-7 projects in the pipeline, the MMRDA will build a network of 172 km long for Metro rail. Of course, this will also cause inconvenience to citizens. Hence, the MMRDA has come up with a unique idea of awarding the contractors who would complete their assigned works before deadlines. These contractors would be given the cash prize of Rs 5 lakh per day from the day of completing the work till the date of deadline. But on the other hand, those contractors who would complete their works after the deadline would attract a penalty of 10 per cent of the total cost of that work, informed Pravin Darade, additional commissioner of MMRDA.
Darade hoped that this award system of the MMRDA would encourage contractors to finish their work before deadlines.
