The Katai-Nilje flyover, commonly known as Palava flyover, has been facing criticism days after its much-delayed inauguration.
The 562-meter flyover, designed to facilitate traffic between Dombivli, Kalyan, and Navi Mumbai was thrown open for public use on July 4. Of the total, 450 meters is deteriorated.
Within a week, the INR 250 crore structure, which was designed to decongest the busy Shilphata-Kalyan corridor, is now being dubbed a “skidding zone”. It has been riddled with loose gravel, muddy patches, cement spills and poorly laid tar.

On the same day, two bikers skidded on its surface and suffered minor injuries.
A social media user shared a video of the tarmac of the recently built Palava flyover in Mumbai peeling off just 24 hours after it was inaugurated.
The X (formerly Twitter) user wrote, “Such Third Class Roads. Inauguration on 4th July. Potholes 5th July. Roads don't last even 24 hours. This is the state of the Palava Flyover on Kalyan Shil Road.”

While the flyover aimed to reduce travel time from 45 to 10 minutes, its condition has raised questions over construction quality, corruption and monitoring mechanisms.
