The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has invited claims as well as objections from the tribals since the 4.32 hectares of forest land is set to be reserved for the proposed Borivali-Gorai bridge across the Gorai creek, stated reports.

In order to build the bridge, mangroves will have to be cut, for this, the civic authority will require the permission of the Bombay High Court. Earlier, in 2005, the road was proposed by the MMRDA which back then was the special planning body for Manori-Gorai.

According to reports, the notice highlights that in 2012, the union had amended the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers Act, 2006 and 2008. This was further amended in 2012 to ensure that it is applicable in BMC boundaries.

Based on accounts, the road has attained clearance by the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority. However, the locals aren’t happy with the same.

As per the Act, on the discussed land if tribals or traditional forest dwellers have any unanswered claims, objections, litigations, they have to raise them before December 2, in writing at the R Central ward office of BMC.

Narratives also state that villagers seek basic amenities like medical facilities and water supply. However, it is claimed to have been turned a blind eye towards by the BMC and MMRDA.
