The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project has achieved another key milestone with the completion of the breakthrough of a third mountain tunnel in Palghar district, further accelerating construction work on India’s first high-speed rail corridor.
According to officials, the 417-metre-long tunnel has been successfully completed as part of the infrastructure being developed between Maharashtra’s coastal and industrial regions. The development marks continued progress in the high-speed rail alignment passing through Palghar.
The breakthrough comes as part of a series of rapid tunnelling achievements in the district over the past few months, with multiple mountain tunnels being constructed to connect key sections of the corridor. The project is being implemented by the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) with advanced tunnelling techniques.
Officials said that Maharashtra’s section of the bullet train corridor includes several mountain tunnels, many of which are now in advanced stages of construction. The completion of this latest breakthrough is expected to further streamline work between adjoining tunnel sections and speed up overall progress.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor, spanning over 500 km, is India’s first high-speed rail project and is designed to significantly reduce travel time between the two cities while boosting regional connectivity and economic activity.
With multiple engineering milestones being achieved in quick succession, the Palghar stretch is emerging as one of the most active construction zones in the entire corridor.
