The first phase of the project, connecting Thane-Belapur Road to National Highway-4, has reached the final stage, while work on the third phase is progressing steadily.
The corridor project is being implemented by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) in three phases. Once completed, it will provide seamless road connectivity between Airoli, Mumbra, and Katai Naka, significantly reducing travel distance and congestion on existing routes.
Officials said the corridor is expected to improve connectivity between Navi Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan, Dombivli, and Badlapur, enabling faster and more efficient travel.
MMRDA Commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee said the corridor is not just a road project but a strategic investment for Maharashtra’s future. He added that the high-speed route would transform travel across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and improve connectivity for both commuters and freight transport.
Deputy Chief Minister and MMRDA Chairman Eknath Shinde said the project would serve as a major connectivity booster for Thane and Navi Mumbai. He noted that the tunnel component of the project would allow smoother and uninterrupted travel between the two regions.
According to officials, the project is expected to reduce travel time by around 35 to 40 minutes, and phases one and two are likely to be opened for traffic later this year.
