Petition filed against MHADA’s lottery system

A petition has been filed in the Bombay High Court (HC) against Konkan Housing & Area Development Board, a wing of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), of reserving houses that belong to Economic-Weaker-Section (EWS) and low-income-group (LIG) for former and current MPs and MLAs.

The hearing will take place in two weeks. On August 19, 2018, the Konkan Board will be releasing the lottery for 9018 houses.

Mitesh Varshneya petitioner pointed out in the petition that houses which belong to LIG and EWS are reserved for former MLAs and MPs when houses which belong to HIG should be reserved for the same.

Usually, if former MPs or MLAs do not claim houses that are reserved for them, then the same is passed on to the common man. It is believed that MHADA might use this in its defence during the hearing.
