A multi-storey building in Mahad of Raigad collapsed on August 24. A day later the police informed that they have filed an (FIR) against five people.

Three floors of a multi-storey building in Mahad of Raigad district collapsed on Monday evening, August 24. The incident in question took place around 18:50 hours. The rescue operations are still going on. 

About 16 people have lost their lives in this incident. Among those rescued was a 4-year-old boy Mohamed Bangi was among those rescued. He was pulled out of the rubble with minimum injuries with all the onlookers chanting Ganpati Bappa Morya. He was rescued after being trapped for almost 19 hours. 

Today, on August 26, the NDRF team also managed to rescue a 50-year-old woman from the rubble. 

The name of the building that fell on that day is Tarique Garden and it was a ground-plus-four structure. The building was not more than 10 years ago and around 40 families were residing in the building.

The rescue operations have been going on for more than 12 hours now. Three teams from NDRF and 12 teams of fire brigade have been working in rescuing people that were trapped in the building. Nine people have been injured in this incident are receiving medical attention. 

Aditi Tatkare, guardian minister for Raigad district, said a committee would be formed to probe the incident. He mentioned that a panel will investigate how and why an incident of this nature happened. Furthermore, the structural audit will also be carried out of other buildings to prevent similar incidents,” Tatkare said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed in a press statement shared that he was saddened by the incident and also wished that all those injured will have a speedy recovery.

President Ram Nath Kovind also expressed his feeling in a tweet. He took to Twitter to share that he was distressed with the loss of life.  

Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde and Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant have visited the crash site.
