According to the latest reports, the Union has urged the Maharashtra government to reconsider their decision of shifting the Mumbai Metro car shed from Goregaon's Aarey Colony to Kanjurmarg. A letter by the ministry of housing and urban affairs (MoHUA) referred to the reports undertaken by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and a consultant appointed by the MMRDA.

Based on accounts, the letter highlighted the technical difficulties in the daily functioning of the Mumbai Metro Line 3 and 6 if the car depot is moved to Kanjurmarg. The letter urged the state government to permit the restart of the depot work of Line 3 at Aarey Colony for the quick completion of the project in the interest of the public.

The letter reportedly elaborates on how there have already been delays and if the uncertainties continue, the Union is of the opinion there will be more delays. It goes on to mention that the project will ease the traffic woes that Mumbaikars presently face.

It pointed out that the DMRC spoke about its own experience on how inducting trains from the depot at a frequency of four minutes is challenging, this is coupled with the time for maintenance will have negative repercussions on the restoration time of Line 3 fails when it is plying normally.

The letter further added that the DMRC and the consultant agree with the constraints, therefore, recommend that the lines should be catered for individual depots. Since it is a massive project a decision should be undertaken while taking into consideration long term viability and sustainability.

Additionally, it highlights that the integration of the two lines at Seepz village station will be a risk to the train operations on both lines. The letter claims that the land at Aarey meets the present and design life traffic requirements till 2055 thus, it wouldn't be wise to move the metro car shed to Kanjurmarg.

It throws light on the fact that the line at Kanjurmarg is under litigation, considering that the project is now at an advanced stage and that the environmental concerns of the Aarey land have been settled, the Maharashtra government's decision should be reconsidered.
