INR 31.27 crores spent on Dharavi redevelopment project: RTI

In the last 15 years, expenses worth INR 31.27 crores approximately has been spent on the Dharavi redevelopment project, according to the Right to Information (RTI) provided to activist Anil Galgali. The details were provided by Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) starting from April 1, 2005 to March 31, 2020.

Furthermore, disclosing the details RTI stated that an expenditure of INR 15.85 crores has been shown on Project Management Consultant charges, INR 3.65 crores was spent on advertising and dissemination, INR 4.14 crores spent on business charges and surveys, INR 2.27 crores on legal fees.

Anil Galgali lamanted that not one inch has been redeveloped in the last 17 years and there has been a loss of crores of rupees. He has sent a letter to the state Chief Minister and housing minister mentioning that if the government redevelops Dharavi instead of a private developer, a large housing stock will be created. The government's coffers will be filled and it can get benefit.

In 2014, during the BJP-Sena coalition government whole of Dharavi was brought under one cluster. There are five sectors which were earlier divided into 13 sub-clusters. The state government even formed a special purpose vehicle with 80 per cent private stake and 20 per cent government contribution- to execute the estimated INR 22,000 crores project but no progressive work was seen as expected. In 2011 Congress-NCP government had planned Dharavi redevelopment on similar model.
