Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is currently indulged in the construction of metro corridor Metro-2 (A) from Dahisar to D.N. Nagar and Metro 7 from Andheri (East) to Dahisar (East).

On one hand, MMRDA has been trying to complete metro’s work and on the other, MMRDA is enrolled in completing the rolling stocks such as metro coaches, signal systems, and other related constructions. Various companies have approached MMRDA to fulfil its requirements for the metro coaches. MMRDA Commissioner R.A. Rajiv said that seven major companies have shown interest in the same.  

A total of 378 metro coaches are required when both the metro line – Metro 2(A) and Metro 7 – are operational. Tenders for the same were internationally given and it was opened in Delhi on Tuesday.

These tenders were invited according to the criteria of Asian Development Bank, financing for Metro 2A and 7 projects. Metro coaches should be designed for travellers, senior citizens, Divya's travels, airconditioned and environmentally friendly coaches, CCTV and other facilities.

The tenders were carried out in accordance to the criteria of Asian Development Bank for financing the construction of Metro 2(A) and 7 projects. Metro coaches shall be designed keeping in mind the comfort for the senior citizens, differently abled people and it should be environmental friendly with CCTV surveillance for security purposes.

The MMRDA Commission clarified that the seven tenders submitted will now be thoroughly inspected by the evaluation committee and only after that, the tender will be finalised. Meanwhile, Rajiv informed that both, Metro 2A and Metro 7, will be completed in time.
