Besides, in yet another initiative to ensure safety in train operations, Western Railway has commissioned the Remote Diagnostic & Predictive Maintenance System at Atul station on the busy Mumbai – Surat main line section. This System was inaugurated recently by G. V. L Satyakumar – Divisional Railway Manager of Mumbai Central Division.

According to a press release issued by Sumit Thakur, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, the Remote Diagnostic and Predictive Maintenance System (RDPMS) has been commissioned at Atul station at a cost of INR 49.98 lakh and the work was completed in a period of four months. The System comprises of utilizing 373 sensors for tracking the currents and voltages of all 12 signals, 31 track circuits & 21 points and 16 busbars at Atul station.

The Remote Diagnostic functionality of the System helps to give a probable cause of failure and aid the maintenance staff for early restoration, reducing Mean Time To Restore (MTTR). The Predictive Maintenance functionality of the System enables to send automatic alerts for Signalling gears which are likely to fail based on the system learning, so that the maintenance staff can take necessary action to eliminate failure before it occurs. The System will diagnose failure point and suggest possible cause & remedies.

Hence, this System facilitates real time monitoring of parameters of Signalling gears & enable predictive maintenance of gears based on the alert generated by the system. An MIS based Mobile App upkeeps the records of assets and their maintenance. This System will help in boosting the safety operations of trains & in turn will also help in maintaining punctuality of trains.
