The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has launched the third phase of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Motorway project. This phase will connect the districts of Bhandara, Gondia, and Gadchiroli.
The third phase involves the construction of three distinct arms. MSRDC has invited bids for a 127-kilometre motorway between Nagpur and Gondia, which will cost INR 7,345 crore. Additionally, a 28-km stretch will connect Bhandara and Gondia at a cost of INR 1,587 crore. A 194-km section from Nagpur to Chandrapur will be developed for INR 9,543.2 crore.
The expansion will reduce travel time in Maharashtra's eastern districts, promoting socioeconomic development. By connecting these areas to Mumbai, the state's financial hub, the project seeks to foster growth and prosperity.
Currently, 600 km of the 700 km Samruddhi corridor, stretching from Nagpur to Bharvir in Igatpuri, is functional. This was achieved in two phases, from December 2022 to May 2023. The remaining 101 km is under construction and is expected to open in July this year.
Before the third phase, the second phase aimed to connect the districts of Jalna, Parbhani, and Nanded over a 180-kilometre distance. This project, costing an estimated Rs 19,000 crore, marked a significant investment in infrastructure and regional connectivity.
