In order to rekindle the love for reading and paperback among its citizens, Mumbai has got a new update in its libraries. This time, it’s an ‘open’ library spread across a 4,500 sq ft garden. This open Garden library is located on Dr E Borges Road next to ITC Grand in Parel and it can accommodate about 4-50 readers at a time.

The library houses a thousand books ranging from children’s literature to autobiographies, literature and science fiction genres stacked up in 10 glass shelves. Security guards are deployed to look after the shelves and help readers to choose from the collection. The readers will need to ask for the book from the guard.

The BMC garden which is now turned into a library had been vacant. With an intention of employing the space for public welfare, it was turned into a garden-library with the efforts of MLA Ajay Chaudhary.

ITC has developed a lawn and made seating arrangements for senior citizens. The library will remain open till 8:00 PM every day.
So whether you’re a book lover or not, don’t forget to visit this garden library the next time you stop in Parel!
