After declaring its first list of candidates for 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) lashed out at the state government and authorities over the ongoing Aarey issue while demanding the resignation of Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) Managing Director, Ashwini Bhide.
While addressing a press conference at Marathi Patrakar Sangh in Mumbai, AAP national spokesperson Preeti Menon spoke against the decision to cut 2,700 trees in Aarey colony for the construction of Metro 3 (Colaba-Bandra-Seepz) car shed. However, Menon clarified that AAP supports the metro but not the destruction of Aarey.
Menon hit out at Ashwini Bhide saying that if she is not capable of constructing metro without (destroying) Aarey, she should resign. Earlier, Bhide had said that there is no alternative but to construct the metro 3 car shed in Aarey.

We will appoint someone who is capable enough to find an alternative,” AAP leader Preeti Menon asserted.
In its official stand, AAP stated that the party would stand along with anyone who is protesting to ‘Save Aarey’. Earlier, Shiv Sena had also demanded the resignation of Bhide over Aarey issue.
