Senior Congress leader Nana Patole on Monday claimed that Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had asked the state home department to open salary accounts of police employees in Axis bank and demanded his resignation over the same.

Amruta Fadnavis, the wife of CM Devendra Fadnavis, is Vice President of the Axis Bank. Congress campaign committee president Nana Patole has alleged CM Fadnavis of “abusing his official position”. This comes ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra which are scheduled on October 21.

While calling the allegations as “baseless and false”, CM Fadnavis said that the same allegations have been made against him in the past but nobody could provide proof.

Fadnavis further stated that the salary accounts of police personnel were opened in 15 nationalised banks, and not only in Axis Bank, on March 2005 during the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) government.

I got married in November 2005 and the accounts were opened in March 2005. During Congress and NCP rule, the accounts were opened in 15 nationalised banks. If any wrong is etablished, I will quit politics or else he should.” said CM Fadnavis.

Meanwhile, Patole informed that during the time when late Congress leader Vilasrao Deshmukh was Maharashtra Chief Minister, a decision was taken to open salary accounts of police employees in 15 banks including Axis.
