In a huge setback for Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), senior party leader Sachin Ahir on Thursday joined Shiv Sena in the presence of Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections. As this happened, the position for NCP’s Mumbai unit President is vacant and the party is keen on appointing a replacement.

Amid the crisis, the NCP has intensified its search to appoint a new party’s Mumbai unit President. The political speculations suggest that party leaders such as Nawab Malik, Sanjay  Dina Patil and Vidya Chavan are being named as the replacement for Ahir. However, there has been no official in this regard.

While talking to the reporters, Nawab Malik informed that Ahir made his name in politics because of NCP. “The party made him an MLA at a young age, gave him ministerial portfolio followed by the Mumbai President post but he left the party in difficult times,” Malik asserted.

Ahir’s move to join Shiv Sena invited huge criticism from the senior NCP leaders. The Maharashtra assembly elections are scheduled later this year and ahead of the same, the opposition parties including Congress and NCP are facing a leadership crisis.
