In a significant development, Ajit Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister, and his breakaway Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faction have filed a disqualification plea against 10 MLAs from the Sharad Pawar camp. The plea was filed on Thursday, September 21, with Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar.

This move comes after the Election Commission of India (ECI) acknowledged a dispute within the NCP and scheduled a hearing for both factions on October 6.

The MLAs named in the plea include Ashok Pawar, Balasaheb Patil, Jitendra Awhad, Mansing Naik, Rohit Pawar, Anil Deshmukh, Sunil Bhusara, and Jayant Patil.

Interestingly, Nawab Malik, who was recently granted bail due to medical reasons, is not named for legal action by the Ajit-led faction.

The Sharad Pawar-led NCP had previously filed 3 petitions for the disqualification of 40 MLAs for switching their allegiance to Ajit. These petitions targeted nine legislators in the first instance, 20 in the second, and 11 in the third.

On July 2, Ajit Pawar announced his decision to join the Shiv Sena-BJP coalition government and was appointed as Deputy Chief Minister. He also stated his intention to petition the ECI to claim the party symbol and name.

In a meeting held on June 30, Ajit Pawar was chosen as the new national leader by his faction. However, Praful Patel was then appointed as the new working president by Pawar.
