Preliminary estimates from the Maharashtra Gram Panchayat election reveal that the turnout in the general elections for this year was about 79 per cent across 12,711 gram panchayats in 34 districts of the state. Information regarding the same was given by PS Madan who stated that the general elections for the gram panchayats in the state were announced on December 11, 2020.

Adding more, he confirmed that the elections were held successfully without opposition across most of the areas, however, the process in Umrane (Deola) of Nashik district and Khondamali (Nandurbar taluka) of Nandurbar district were cancelled due to some issues related to the Sarpanch and member posts.

Polling for 162 gram panchayats in six talukas of Gadchiroli district will be held on January 20, 2021, and currently, the polls have taken place for 12,711 gram panchayats in total. The counting of votes will take place on January 18, 2021 in all other districts.

Furthermore, a total of 3,56,221 candidature applications were received for over 1.25 lakh Panchayat seats, and after scrutiny and withdrawal, a total of over 2.41 lakh candidates were left out. Besides this, 26718 candidates are in the process of being declared uncontested winners.

Total- 12,711.
