A warrant has been issued against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Nitesh Rane in connection with a 2014 rioting case. The bailable warrant was issued by a sessions court against Rane for his involvement in a riot outside a hotel in Worli.

Nitesh Rane, son of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Narayan Rane, has been issued a warrant on the basis of a plea filed by Additional Public Prosecutor Ramesh Siroya. The public prosecutor filed a plea for the issue of a warrant against Rane and Rajesh Hatle who is another accused in the 2014 rioting case.

Siroya said that he filed the plea as both of the accused have never presented themselves before the court regarding this case. In the chargesheet file by the police, they have been named as wanted accused in the rioting case. Other accused in the case were arrested earlier and were given bail.

There are 16 accused in the case and offences against them were registered under various sections related to unlawful assembly, rioting and assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty.

The next date of hearing into the matter is on April 8. Rane was part of Swabhiman Sanghatna when the clash happened and not with the BJP. The members of Rane’s outfit clashed with Shiv Sainiks outside the Four Season Hotel in Worli.

The Police had informed that Rane got into an argument with a Shiv Sena leader outside the hotel after which members from both sides got into a scuffle which led to stone-pelting. In the whole episode, a policeman was also injured.
