Maharashtra Public Health and Family Welfare Minister, Rajesh Tope on Tuesday informed that the state was in phase two of the coronavirus outbreak and steps were being taken to ensure that situation doesn’t worsen.

“We are in phase 2 (of the coronavirus outbreak) and steps are being taken to ensure that the situation is not advanced into phase 3,” Maharashtra Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope informed the media.

Tope further informed about the meeting with corporate sector representatives stating that they have ensured cooperation and have agreed to the decision of providing ‘Work from Home’ to their employees.

The Maharashtra government had made it mandatory for the private offices in Mumbai to manage their operations with less than 50 per cent attendance while allowing the rest to work from home.

In a cabinet meeting today, the Uddhav Thackeray government has decided that the government offices will remain open with 50 per cent attendance and there is no holiday for the government employees.

After the meeting, Tope stated that this is being done to curb the crowd in local trains and other public transports.

Of the seven positive cases of COVID-19, a 64-year-old man died on Tuesday. Speaking on the same, Rajesh Tope said that one can’t be sure that the reason of death is the novel coronavirus.

“It is not possible to say that the man who died at Kasturba Hospital today, died due to coronavirus. We are waiting for the report,” Tope said.

Maharashtra has become the worst-affected state in terms of the coronavirus outbreak. 41 cases have been tested positive in Maharashtra until now and seven cases in Mumbai, CM Uddhav Thackeray said.

Earlier today, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) confirmed that India was in stage 2 of the coronavirus outbreak which means that local transmission of the virus has started.
