Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) will soon complete its one year in power this month. For those unaware, Shiv Sena, NCP and INC have collaborated to form the government under MVA. For doing this, Shiv Sena broke off their existing alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and joined the others.

BJP recently began its ‘Mumbai Mission’ with an aim to win Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls that are slated to take place in 2022.

The campaign will be led by the former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, whereas Atul Bhatkhalkar, the three-term MLA from Kandivali, has been appointed the poll in charge for the elections, and Mangal Prabhat Lodha has been retained as the city BJP president. Party MLAs like Manoj Kotak, Sunil Rane and Yogesh Sagar as well as Leader of Opposition in the state Legislative Council, Pravin Darekar, will also work on the polls.

Showing its confidence to gain power without an alliance and fly the saffron atop at the BMC headquarters in the coming elections, Devendra Fadnavis said, “The party has set a target to get an absolute majority on its own. We will contest alone. We will win more than 114 seats (the half-way mark).”

Party leaders said that notwithstanding the optimism, the city unit is aware that Shiv Sena, along with Congress and NCP, cannot be taken for granted.

The party is also now working on a two-pronged strategy — to make inroads into the Marathi vote bank of the Sena and the consolidation of North Indian and Gujarati votes, said BJP leaders.

Slamming Fadnavis' remark on the saffron flag, Raut stated that the BJP is only focused towards 'not wanting' Mumbai in Maharashtra on November 19.

Referring to 2017 elections, when the two parties fought the polls separately, Sena had won 86 seats and BJP 82 in the 227-member BMC. Fadnavis had claimed that BJP could have made a government on its own but they let Sena take centerstage as a friend and thus let them remain in power in the body where it has been ruling for more than two decades.
