Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut, on Thursday, November 19, responded to BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis' comment regarding the saffron flag. Slamming Fadnavis' remark, Raut stated that the BJP is only focused towards 'not wanting' Mumbai in Maharashtra.

Fadnavis earlier this week stated that there was a need to hoist the saffron flag again at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and shared that the party is gearing to win the BMC elections scheduled in 2022.

Firmly replying to the same, Raut stated that saffron flying over the Municipal Corporation will not come down even for the following generations of BJP, and added that the party is only interested in Mumbai's land, stock market, financial transactions and wants to use it to make their base in Mumbai. He stated that several martyrs have sacrificed their lives for Mumbai and Maharashtra, and the Shiv Sainiks have always stood firm for their people and the land, during the crisis and the Sena will never let this change.

He further questioned Fadnavis' love for Mumbai and asked why he has not supported the city or raised voice for the same whenever needed. Raut strongly added that for the Sena, Shivaraya's saffron was the only saffron, and the people will eventually decide whether Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's saffron is pure or that of the party Fadnavis represents. He also asked about BJP's love for Marathi when the Gujarat Chief Minister visited the city and provoked the industrialists.

The reply was given following the comment Fadnavis made while speaking at a meeting with the BJP executives on Wednesday, November 18, where he stated that the fall of power was inevitable if it goes to the head and now is the right time to change the government in the Municipal Corporation.
