Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra Legislative Council Pravin Darekar has alleged that the demolition of "illegal structure" at Kangana Ranaut’s office in Bandra by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) as a result of ego and revenge.

While talking to the media, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Darekar pointed out that the authorities have failed to curb the spread of the coronavirus and are acting against Kangana Ranaut to cover up their failures.

“The situation in Mumbai is getting out of hand and the number of coronavirus cases is increasing day by day. In such a situation, the municipal authorities have taken action against Kangana only to divert people's attention from this serious issue,” Darekar said.

He also pointed out that the Shiv Sena is playing politics on identity after losing the issue of Hindutva. Although Darekar favours action being taken against those who speak against Maharashtra and Mumbai, he said that the action should be under the legal framework of the Indian constitution.

“No one has the right to take the law into their own hands. The breach of privilege motion moved against Kangana in the legislative council is in violation of the law,” the BJP leader added.

Earlier, the BMC issued notice to Kangana Ranaut citing illegal structure violations and started the demolition on Wednesday. This came amid the tussle between Kangana and Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.

Reacting to this, Darekar said that he has given a list of 100 unauthorised construction to Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar. “Will the mayor take action on it in 24 hours? We’ll see,” he added.
