Soon after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) released the Budget for 2022-23, the opposition parties slammed it saying there was nothing in it for the common man.

The BJP said that the budget was nothing but an artificial inflation of numbers.

BJP corporator Vinod Mishra said: “It is a failed attempt to hide BMC’s massive cash crunch. Thousands of crores have been taken out of reserve funds, internal loans have been taken. Despite this there is nothing in the budget for the poor.”

While Samajwadi Party MLA and corporator Rais Shaikh, too, said that the budget was only for the rich, whereas Congress corporator Ravi Raja slammed it saying there are “few provisions for health and education”.

However, Shiv Sena, who is ruling the BMC has backed the budget presented by the civic body. “There are no two opinions about it, Aaditya Thackeray will lead the BMC elections. He has worked in the city for past 10-12 years so he knows the city, the issues, the solutions so he is the right person to lead the election,” Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant was quoted as saying by The Print.

Meanwhile, taking it to Twitter, Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray tweeted: “The BMC budget 2022-23 is a budget that is progressive and compassionate... but most importantly, backed by substance and commitments. I congratulate BMC for its constant commitment to keep Mumbai as ‘Urbs Prima’,”.

BJP leader Prabhakar Shinde expressed his disappointment saying that calling this as an election manifesto and said the tradition of making hollow declarations that will never be implemented has continued even this time. "Mumbaikars are disappointed with this budget,” Shinde criticised.

BJP MLA Atul Bhatkhalkar said, “The budget has emphasized big-ticket projects like the coastal road with the sole purpose of promoting contractors and corruption.”
