It is pertinent to note that this development comes as the Supreme Court had directed that the elections to the Municipal Corporation, Municipal Corporation and Zilla Parishad in the state should be completed before January 31, 2026.
How was the ward formation finalised?
The civic body had issued the draft plan regarding the geographical boundaries of the wards for the upcoming elections in August. Citizens were asked to submit objections and suggestions on this plan till September 4. A total of 494 objections and suggestions were received before the deadline.
Hearings on these objections were held between September 11 and 13, after which the final ward map was approved.
When will the polls be conducted?
The polls for the BMC, India’s richest municipal body, are likely to be conducted by this year end or mid-January 2026, reports suggested.
